When the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM or SOCOM) began looking for a new Battle Rifle for their SOF forces to replace the M4 Rifle. They called the project the Special Forces Combat Assault Rifle, or SCAR for short. The SCAR is manufactured in two main versions; Light or SCAR-L, Mk 16 Mod 0 and Heavy or SCAR-H, Mk 17 Mod 0.
